Our Christmasy Week

Updated with PICTURES!!!

Gingerbread Math Centers

Gingerbread House Building and Eating

This week was GINGERBREAD WEEK!!
We made gingerbread houses out of graham crackers, frosting and lots of CANDY.
We ate gingerbread men and wrote about "How to Eat a Gingerbread Man".
We had gingerbread math centres (11 of them).
We watched the gingerbread man and wrote about it!
We also performed two gingerbread readers theatre plays.
This week we also wrote a book for Mexico! It was called "The Gingerbread Man at the Zoo!"

On a non-gingerbread note....

We watched Ramona and Beezus. It was awesome. We watched it because we finished reading the book!

Today we had a class party to celebrate winter break!

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night....

Water Colour with Room 40

This week we made cards for our teacher last year, Mrs. Shields and her son Owen! Owen came to visit us for Roots of Empathy! We gave him a present - it was a snow dog with antlers and we also got him a christmas ornament for his tree that says Roots of Empathy and chocolates for Mrs. Shields (and her husband, if she shares haha).

This week we did a water colour painting of the sunset over the Atlantic ocean. Once we were done painting, we got a plain black piece of paper and cut out shapes for lighthouses, boats, rocks and birds and then we glued them on. The reason why we did black paper was because it was a silhouette.

This is the finished product:

Today Ms. Moffatt put up a video of a fire on the Smart board - but it wasn't a real fire, just a video! We read books together and listened to music by the fire this morning. It was peaceful

This week we started GINGERBREAD WEEK!!!

So far, we've done gingerbread math centres like the iPad, the smart board patterning, measuring with gingerbread men, candy graphing and MANY more...

NEXT WEEK... We are making gingerbread houses that we can eat! AND we're going to do some more gingerbread FUN activities...

Only 5 more school days left until WINTER BREAK!

Spectacular Sign Language

This week Desiree's mom came and did all the sign language songs with us again like "These are the pets I love" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "The More we Get Together". It was really fun! She gave us the alphabet to bring home to practice and she gave us a sign language book for us to learn more!

We learned a new game called "Draw a Snowman". You roll two dice and add them together and it tells you what to draw, and whoever is the first one finished their snowman wins!

We played a game show called "Where in the world do you think we are!!!" We had a picture of Nova Scotia and Manitoba. If there was a picture of Manitoba then we'd hold up the Manitoba flag and if it was a picture of Nova Scotia we'd hold up the Nova Scotia flag! If you got it right, you got a point - the winners were table 6 and table 3!

Here is some pictures of our book clubs today - working hard!

Trey, Lynden and Brooklyn put on a play today! It was called "Jack and the Magic Harp". Trey was Jack, Lynden was the soldiers, the neighbour and the little man and Brooklyn was the princess and the mother.
Abigail: "They used really descriptive words and they didn't say it all 'boringly' - they read it so we got into it."
Samantha: "It was 'fantabulous' because they actually TOLD us the story and acted it out!"

Next week begins....
GINGERBREAD WEEK!!!
Stay tuned for more information...

Have a great weekend and STAY WARM!
