The Week of Spirit

Monday we started non-standard measurement and we used CHOCOLATE CHEERIOS! They were delicious!! P.S When we were done our measuring we ate our cheerios!!

This week was MILK SPIRIT WEEK!!! Monday was moustache monday, Tuesday was dress up like a farmer day, Wednesday was White-Out Wednesday, Thursday was spotted cow day AND today is 'jersey' cow day!! Check out the pictures below of our clothes!! A lot of people won prizes for funniest cow jokes and mystery moo-ers and counting cows around the school!

We started new math centers!! The centers are iPad, white board math with Ms. Moffatt, measuring school supplies with non-standard things like cotton balls, pennies, bears, etc. The other centers are smartboard, measuring spiders and bats with rulers and measuring the room!!!

We had a special presenter come talk to us about protecting LAKE WINNIPEG! It was IAN'S MOM!! She taught us why there is phosphorous in the water and what we can do to save the lake!! We all made a rain drop with how we will save the lake!!

We tried to reverse water pollution. We realized it was WAY harder than we thought. It showed us how much the lake can actually have it and it isn't easy to clean!!! We need to make sure we don't pollute our water!!!

This was the CLEANEST water we could get!!!

Time for SPRING BREAK!!!!
See you in two weeks!

Adios Mexico, Kumusta Philippines!

This week we did an experiment with pom-poms (cotton ball) and water to see how many drops of water a pom-pom (cotton ball) can hold! Some of our predictions were 10-15 drops but actually the pom-pom held HUNDREDS of drops! Two groups put 400 drops of water.

We celebrated CINCO DE MAYO!!! Cinco De Mayo (May 5th) was the day that France and Mexico had a war and Mexico won because they tricked the French by letting out the cows!! Mexico was  fighting because they wanted an independent country. During Cinco De Mayo, kids form into a circle and then there is eggs in the middle filled with confetti and they can smash it onto each other. There are also parades, pinatas, food (kids eat first and adults eat last), special performances (they act out what happened with the war) and lots of mariachi bands!!

We ate taco chips and two different types of salsa. A lot of the kids loved the green salsa (salsa verde) and a lot really liked the red salsa (mild salsa)! There were three kinds of chips - corn chips, flour tortilla chips and red taco chips!! Can you believe 8 people in our class have NEVER TRIED SALSA BEFORE!!! And most of them LIKED IT!

In math we are doing ESTIMATION!!! We've counted the gum balls and there were 176 gum balls!! Ella's mom was the closest with 168. Way to go!! We've been doing estimation games on the smart board where Ms. Moffatt puts up a certain amount of 'stuff' like dice and we have to try and look at them and see how many there are. Then Ms. Moffatt tells us the real number. Our goal is to be within 5 on each side (grade ones needs to be within 10 on each side).

We are now done Mexico - Adios Mexico!
We are heading to the Philippines - Kumusta Philippines!
